In a notable incident following the release of the acclaimed film 'Guide', legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor reportedly called Dev Anand in the early hours of the morning, praising the movie profusely and even crying on the phone. However, this praise was contrasted by a subsequent snub of the film's director, Vijay Anand, leading to the belief that Kapoor harbored insecurities with fellow filmmakers. According to Mohan Churiwala, a close friend and associate of Dev Anand, who recounted Vijay Anand's perspective, Raj Kapoor called Dev Anand around 2 AM, insisting on watching 'Guide' immediately. Despite Dev Anand's initial annoyance at being woken up, he arranged for a print of the film to be sent to R.K. Studios. After watching the film, Kapoor reportedly called Dev Anand again around 6 AM, expressing deep admiration for 'Guide' and praising Vijay Anand's talent, stating, "You are so lucky to have such a talented brother." However, the situation took a different turn when Dev Anand, still basking in Kapoor's praise, encouraged Vijay Anand to personally greet Raj Kapoor at a social gathering shortly after. To Vijay Anand's surprise and embarrassment, Raj Kapoor reportedly acted as if he didn't recognize him, repeatedly asking him about his activities and education as if they had never met. This repeated disregard led Vijay Anand to believe that Raj Kapoor, while considered a "God" by the public, would become "a little insecure" when interacting with fellow filmmakers. Dev Anand attempted to downplay the incident, suggesting Kapoor might have been in a different mood, but the snub left Vijay Anand deeply disheartened.
